Ipsy Glambag April 2013 Review

“Pretty In Pink”

That’s the theme for this month’s ipsy Glambag, and for the first time, I can actually make sense of the theme they picked! All the items were pink and adorable and although we only got 4 items, 3 are full sized, so that was awesome! Ipsy costs $10/month, and you usually get 4-5 deluxe samples of beauty products to try!

The bag this month was adorable! First white bag I’ve gotten from Glambag, and the inside is just so cute with the pink & white stripes! The cute bags are definitely a reason that I keep this subscription going, and ones like this make me extra happy :]

The thing I DON’T like about ipsy is the fact that they don’t even give you a description of the products, let alone a product list itself! All the card they send tells you is the theme of the month, and then the discounts you can get on the brands on the ipsy website…. ehhh nothing too special, I would prefer descriptions, pricing, etc.

But let’s get to the goodies in the April bag!!!!

Item #1 • Be A… Bombshell
Blush, Full size, $16.00
I received this blush in the color “Beach Please”. This product paid for the bag itself! Plus $6 more! How awesome! I love this brand, I have gotten samples of lip products of theirs and have loved them. The packaging and color names are clever are cute! This is superrr pink, but with just the right amount applied, is perfect :] Check out the product here!

IMG_1380 IMG_1381

Item #2 • Big Sexy Hair
Hair Powder Play – Volumizing & Texturizing Powder, .07 oz (Full size: 0.53 oz, $15.95)
Ahhhh this couldn’t have come at a more perfect time! I JUST had to throw away my other hair powder I was using because it got wet and creepy and wasn’t working right… I am so happy to have this little sample to make sure I love this one as much as my other one (I used to use Not Your Mother’s Hair Powder… I LOVE that brand, cheap & super amazing). I used to use a lot of Sexy Hair products, so hopefully I will love this one too! Perfect! Check out the product here.

Item #3 • Miss Professional Nail
Nail Lacquer, Love At First Bite, Full size, $5.00
This color was especially made for ipsy, therefore it can’t be found on the Miss Professional website, but I wasn’t aware of the brand before, and online they have sooo many adorable colors under the “Sation”collection, and at only $5, it’s well worth it! This nail polish is all around EXCELLENT. The bottle and brush are perfect quality, and even though I have never even purchased a nude color on my own (it’s just not my thing) I ADORE this color! The subtle pink hue makes it the perfect nude for me and my skin tone! I LOVE THIS! With just 1 coat it looks pretty, which makes the love the formula itself! Excellent nail polish!!! Check out some of the other colors in the Sation collection here.

IMG_1385 IMG_1386

Item #4 • Two Cosmetics
Duo Eyeshadow, Heartache, Full size, $5.75
This eyeshadow duo is pretty nice in that both pinks are almost the same, but one is super shimmery and the other is more of a matte. I love that it’s full sized, and nice packaging is a great touch. I’m not really big on eye shadows, but it’s nice that these colors are pretty neutral, so they’d be easily blend-able with the normal eye makeup I like to wear :] Check out the product here.

IMG_1382 IMG_1384

I don’t know if it’s just me comparing April’s glam bag to the Birchbox I got yesterday, but this bag was excellent! I love the full sized products, and the sample was perfectly what I needed for my hair right now! Excellent!! I hope your glam bag was just was wonderful :]

Birchbox April 2013 Review

“Tiny Tweaks, Big Results”

That’s the theme of this month’s Birchbox. They teamed up with Women’s Health for the April box and I was really excited about it… but I kind of feel like this box let me down. I don’t know. I still don’t know how excited I am about the box yet. At first I didn’t like it, then I started to really like it, I just keep changing my mind. I guess my only con this month (but it is a big one to me) are the tiny sample sizes. Otherwise over all, it’s all pretty great :]

Birchbox is a beauty subscription service that costs $10/month and delivers 4-5 beauty samples to your doorstep, all packaged nicely inside their signature brown box with pink wrapping.

They always send a card that lists the products and short description of each, along with pricing. The other side is their letter of the month, explaining the theme of the box and what’s special about it this month! Meow let’s see what’s inside!!!!

Item #1: Mirenesse
Glossy Kiss Lip & Cheek Color, Full size, $26.55
Birchbox has an exclusive color from this Aussie beauty company, #7 Quick Kiss. As you can see, the product came with a little instruction card on proper (and easy!) application. The product is actually pretty awesome! I’m always too scared to wear lipstick but you can give yourself subtle color if you prefer with this awesome crayon-like stick! How fun! Check out the product here.

bbap13lip bbap13lip2

Item #2: Oribe
Shampoo & Conditioner for Beautiful Color, 0.23 oz each, 2 sample packs
Full size: Shampoo, 8.5 oz, $37.00/ Conditioner, 6.8 oz, $39.00
So I always love getting shampoo and/or conditioner samples because they can always be put to good use! Especially when they’re special for color treated hair, because my constant red hair dying does nothing good for my hair whatsoever (besides the beautiful color! haha). The only CON about this is the packaging. I hate having to try and open these stupid little packets, I always forget I need scissors and then I’m already wet and soapy in the shower, and it’s just a disaster (#whitegirlproblems). This does look like pretty fancy stuff though, so I’m sure it’ll be great for my hair, so it’s always nice for some special treatment sometimes ;] Check out both the products here.

Item #3: SKIN&CO Roma
Sicilian Body Gel, 2.0 oz (Full size: 1.69 oz, $8.50)
Ok, so I know it doesn’t make any sense that the sample size is smaller than the actual size, HOWEVER, Birchbox has a huge pump bottle of this product (unknown size) for sale for $17.50. It looks pretty big, but I didn’t see the size listed. I’m kind of confused too, but whatever. I was reading a lot of bad reviews about this product, but I think it smells fantastic! It smells hotel-y to me, and I love that because that reminds me of vacations :] I love lotions and anything extra moisturizing, so I am excited for this! Check out the product on the Skin & Co website.

Item #4: Supergoop!
Advanced SPF 40 Anti-Aging Cream, 2 ml (Full size: 0.5 oz, $43.00)
Ok, so this sample is TINY. I was quite mad about that. But then I saw that the full sized product is only half an ounce and costs almost $50 bucks! So this must be serious eye cream. Also, Birchbox labels this as SPF 40, when it clearly says SPF 37 on the label (I know they were just rounding up to sound better, but still). I guess I should get more serious about eye creams considering lately I have been quite unhealthy and I never sleep. Plus my birthday is coming up in a couple days to only remind myself that I keep growing up! Hopefully I can get at least ONE use out of this tiny, TINY sample. Even when you squeeze the bottle, it’s clearly only filled like 1/8 of the way… oh well! Check it out here.

Item #5 “LIFESTYLE EXTRA”: Kusmi Tea Paris
Euphoria + Sweet Love flavors, one tea bag each (Full size: 20 tea bags, $15.50)
Ok, I am getting kind of sick of all these tea samples. They seem to be in EVERY SINGLE subscription box I get. No matter what. Alas, I now have a huge collection of tea, in so many flavors, I can make any guest happy now in my home! These look fun though, and I love the packaging! Check out the teas here.

But wait! That’s not all! Since this month was teamed up with Women’s Health, this box “came with” a 1 year subscription to Women’s Health magazine! I was kiiiinda confused at first at the little card that they sent, but the thing was, it is FREE with the box, I just had to fill out my info and send it to Women’s Health, probably just so they don’t send it out to everyone when there would be people who wouldn’t want it! So that was awesome! A whole year of a free magazine that I was already contemplating buying! HOW AWESOME! :]

I’m getting a little sick of the “prices” that Birchbox labels on the info card. It seems as though they try to make some of the items looks more expensive to look fancier to us subscribers, but all we have to do is go onto their websites and find out what they charge for normal sizes of their items. Anywayyyyyy this box was kind of disappointing, nothing I was jumping up and down over, but not terrible in any way. I hope your box was better!

Julep Boho Glam Starter Box Review

As I mentioned in a post before, I had a coupon code to use for the Julep monthly nail polish subscription service, making this $19.99 priced box only cost $0.01!!!! I was sooo excited, and it also arrived on my doorstep super quick, which is always a plus!

Here’s what I got in my Boho Glam Starter Box!!! (basically FOR FREE!!)

Julep Instant Warming Foot Scrub. I walk around all the time barefoot, inside AND outside, so sometimes I have a problem with rough, dry skin on the bottoms of my feet. This is a perfect product for me!!!! :] It’s also a pretty nice sized tube of product!

They also threw in this little Hand Scrub sample, it’s nice, but kind of stinks because it’s so tiny and if I like it I won’t have any more. haha

I LOVE the polish colors that I received in my box! Robin is a super pretty turquoise/blue, SO ME, and Stefani is a nice sparkly dark grey! Super cute!

Since this box was FREE to me, it makes it all that much better. I’m not going to continue on with my subscription, I just wanted to get a nice initial free box, but from other reviews I’ve read on the service, other girls seem to love it!! The coupon code I used was: JULEPVIP.

KLUTCHclub March 2013 Review

This month’s KLUTCHclub box was pretty great, and of course this happens the month that I cancel my subscription. It is one of the pricer boxes I get at $17/month, but the first two boxes I received (January and February) weren’t worth the money (to me I mean). They boast “$50 of the best healthy snacks, supplements, fitness programs, personal-care products, and more”, and although most of the products I received were pretty cool, some of the “programs” that are “worth” the most money were just pointless to me. It was like I was getting maybe the $17 back for the products, and then they send gift cards for random stuff I wouldn’t use for $20 or $30 some dollars. THIS MONTH HOWEVER, the 2 programs they give gift cards to are pretty cool and I love most all the other stuff too!

Let’s get to the box!!!

Nice big booklet of information about the products included

Nice big booklet of information about the products included

Item #1) Skinny Pop 100-Calorie Popcorn Snack
Retail value: $3.69, 4.4 oz

Item #2) Lumosity.com 1 month giftcard
Retail value: $14.95 for the month
I thought this was kind of silly. I’ve seen commercials for the company, about how it helps you “train your brain”, and always thought “Who the heck would pay money for this?!” BUUUUUUT now that I have a free month of it, I checked out the website and it looks kinda cool! I won’t be renewing it and paying for it next month, but I think it’ll be fun. It says that after just 10 hours of working on stuff, you can see improvements in the areas that you needed the most help on (for me, that will be memory).

Item #3) Lacote USA Guam Beauty Mud Cellulite Treatment
Retail value: $69.00, 17.64 oz.

Item #4) Cocoa Via, Daily Cocoa Extract Supplement
Unsweetened Dark Chocolate, 1o packets
Retail value: $39.95 for 30 count box

Item #5) Aligned Signs.com $30 Gift, 1 month worths
I had no idea what this was and it looked super weird… but then I checked out the website and it was completely fantastic! It looks pretty cool, it’s sopposed to help you get to know yourself better and stuff… It just seems pretty interesting :]

Item #6) Juice Beauty, Hydrating Mist
Retail value: $22.00, 6.75 oz.
I already got this in my ipsy Glambag this month, making me think that this product was being given away for free like crazy.

Item #7) Green & Black’s Organic Dark Chocolate
Dark 70%, 1.2 oz
Retail value: $35.84, pack of 10

Item #8) Corazonas Blueberry Oatmeal Squares
Retail value: $13.99 for 12 pack

Item #9) Crystal Body Deodorant Stick
Retail value: $2.99 for the travel size
This looks pretty awesome. It has no scent, you just splash a little water on and then use it to block odor. The only ingredients are natural mineral salts.

Item #10) Davidson’s Organic Tea
Tropical Green, Sun Moon & Stars, Red Green & White
Retail value: $2.95 for a box of 8

I think I got my money’s worth for this box, and I’m really happy about it! I know I cancelled my subscription, but that’s only because I’m currently unemployed and need to cut back on some stuff…. maybe in a couple months I’ll try them out again! These 3 months were pretty fun with them tho! :]

Birchbox March 2013 Review

This month’s Birchbox makes me very happy. I received all items that I would definitely use! Makes me happy to know that I’m not wasting any money/products like some months I feel like I may be doing. Oooops. Birchbox is $10/month and usually really worth it for the quality of the products and the fun new brands they introduce you to. Of course I have loved the packaging from the first time I got a Birchbox, the little box with tissue paper and sometimes other little treats inside are usually a fun surprise :]

Let’s get to this month’s box, which was themed March Madness!!

IMG_0976 IMG_0977 IMG_0979 IMG_0978

Item #1: MAKE
Satin Finish Eyeshadow, 0.03 oz (Full size, 0.10 oz, $18.00)

I received the color “Purple Sage”, which isn’t even available on their website or even the Birchbox website, which is a little strange to me, but maybe I just got a fun new unique color! It’s a super plumy purple, will be easy for blending and is very silky smooth.

IMG_0985 IMG_0986

Item #2: MAKE
Face Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30, 0.18 oz (Full size, 1 oz, $30.00)

I always love a nice new primer!!! What’s not to like?!

Item #3: Nick Chavez Beverly Hills
Color-Saver Sulfate-Free Shampoo, 2 oz (Full size, 8 oz, $22.00)

I’m constantly coloring my hair (always red) so I always need a nice color saving shampoo! Perfect :]

Item #4: Whish
Shave Crave Shaving Cream, 0.75 oz (Full size, 5 oz, $20.00)

This claims to completely moisturize while shaving instead of the foams that tend to dry out skin. The scent is an exclusive scent to Birchbox, in blueberry. It smells yummy and very different than other shave creams I have used before. I don’t think you can ever have enough shaving cream as it’s something that I do all the time! So awesome! Not to mention the pretty blue and black packaging!

Item #5 “Beauty Extra”: Madewell for Birchbox
Emery Board, full size, $5.00

Literally just started painting my nails and taking care of them after a terrible little lapse I had in that department….. so I was in need for a nice new filer! So happy with the pretty floral design too!

All in all, I loved my March Madness box!!! :]

ipsy Glambag March 2013 Review

This month’s ipsy Glambag had me very excited with their theme of “the Great Escape”. The bag was super cute (I love anchors and basically all things nautical), and even the little card made me smile with the waves and sailboat and dolphin, all things I obviously LOVE.

IMG_0869 IMG_0871

BUT THEN… I turn over the card to find that I was only getting 4 different products this month, which kinda stinks because some of the other boxes I’ve been getting lately have been very generous with 5 and 6 different products. I already don’t like the cards that come with the ipsy bags because they never explain what the product is, it’s uses, prices, etc. They just give the brand and the discount they will offer for being an ipsy subscriber (which most other subscription services also do too).

I opened the bag to see what was inside….

and before I even start to list the goodies inside, I can just say that I was very disappointed with this bag. Nothing was too fun or exciting and it was kind of confusing opening it, because I thought half of one of the products was missing and the cheap looking packaging of the shadows just turn me off. Anywho, HERE ARE THE GOODIES:

Item #1: Glam RX
Mini Freestyle Pallet, price unknown

IMG_0873 IMG_0875

This is the item that I first opened and right away got angry. I thought that something was missing on the inside. I had to go online and check out their website, only to find out that the normal pallet that retails for $16.50 actually comes with stuff inside. This is just a magnet that will hold 2 of the eye shadows that we also got in the bag, and obviously any other little colors with the metal backing. I don’t think I will honestly use this at all. I’m very disappointed in the product to say the least. *Side-note: As I was opening this, Michael said “well I’m sure the colors that go in there are probably in the bag too” and I said “well that’s stupid, I just think they jipped me and gave me a bad/missing one”…. come to find out, he was right. haha the following are the shadows that can start this pallet….

Item #2: yaby
Eyeshadow Refill, 3 grams, $3.15/each

IMG_0879 IMG_0878

As shown, I received 2 shades, #es296 “So Vein”, and #es442 “Sand Dune”. I guess I’m happy that they are both very usable colors, easy for blending and such, but the packaging is so ugly. I know they are just refills and not sopposed to be fancy because you stick them right in your magnetic pallet, but still. It just looks so cheap. I put them in the pallet because I don’t know what else to do with them, but again, this item is just blah and I’m not too happy about it.

Item #3: La Fresh
Travel Lite Makeup Remover, 8 wipes, $1.99

Ok, so I’m actually happy about this item. I love travel items that are easy for on the go, and these are much easier to remember to throw in your purse than lugging around and always misplacing the normal remover I usually use. I haven’t tried them yet, but they smell like regular baby wipes, so I don’t have a problem with that, although it might feel weird to have wipe-smell all over my face. The usual makeup remover I use from Avon is a lotion that has no scent, and I love that, have been using it for years. Over all, this product wasn’t too bad. Nothing super exciting, but still better than the first two items!

Item #4: Juice Beauty
Hydrating Mist, 1 oz. (Full size, 6.75 oz, $22.00)

Although I have heard about this product from a friend, I had never used a “hydrating mist” before. I tried it out though, and I didn’t mind the smell, it felt weird to just spray something directly on my face like that though. It says that it “tones & refreshens”, so maybe this would be a great product for when I’m traveling and basically just on the go for a long period of time. I like this brand a lot so I was happy with this product (finally).

All in all, this bag was obviously not my favorite. ipsy Glam Bag is $10/month, and I’m not sure if I even got my money’s worth on this bag, which is a big downer. I’m not thinking about canceling because I have loved the bags in the past, so hopefully next month they step it up and send out a much better bag! :] High hopes!

all love & smiles :]

Glossybox February 2013 Review

This month’s Glossybox was fantastic. As soon as I opened the box I was overwhelmed by the amazing aroma coming out of it. I soon found out it was because of the lovely smelling soap in there, but I will get to that soon! I am excited to use all 5 items :]

IMG_0817 They used pretty pink paper & ribbon to wrap this month’s box, which looked great! They have been changing up the colors lately, so maybe this will be a new monthly thing. Glossybox is a monthly beauty subscription service that costs $21/month. You get 5 travel sized (and sometimes full sized) items a month, and they introduce you to awesome new brands and products. Completely worth the money!

In this month’s box, it was all about International Style…

Item #1: Bvlgari
Eau Parfumée Au Thé Blanc soap, 1.76 oz
(Full size, $30.00/5.3 oz)

IMG_0819This soap smells soooooooo good. It reminds me of vacation for some reason (and even the BF agreed!) I don’t even want to use it because then it’s gonna be gone & I won’t be able to smell the awesome beachy vacation smell I somehow I get out of this soap. I personally would never pay $30 for regular soap, because let’s face it, I hate showering as it is, so soap doesn’t really excite me too much (plus, I use men’s body washes like Old Spice or Axe because I love those musky guy scents). All in all, I am very happy with this product and can’t wait to smell it all over me!!!! :]

Item #2: Da Vinci Cosmetics
Shimmer Powder, Full size, ($15.00/.06 oz)

I received #04 “Dejavous”, it’s pinkish but so shimmery it’s light and silvery/white I guess. It got all over my hands before I even opened it, but I didn’t mind because I like sparkly things :] It seems like a perfect highlighter for eyes or cheeks, plus I like the mini lil packaging.

Item #3: Lisi
Sheer Sparkle Lip Gloss, Full size ($6.90/0.31 oz)

IMG_0820 IMG_0821 IMG_0822

I received #012 “Soho”, in the Sheer Sparkle gloss, and first off, I thought this smelled amazing too!!! It reminds me of one of my old favorite Lip Smacker vanilla frosting smells, brings me back & makes me smile :] It’s not sticky or creepy like some glosses, and it’s not too dark or sparkly, it’s just perfect for me :] I’m very excited for this product (plus I always love getting full sizes!!).

Item #4: Missha
Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Hydro Gel Mask, Full size ($6.00/0.98 oz)

IMG_0825 IMG_0826

I think I’ve only used 1 or 2 gel masks before, but I am excited to try this one out because of the weirdness of it. The third ingredient is “snail slime”. It’s creepy and weird and I love it and can’t wait to try it!!!

Item #5: Nail Rock
Nail Wraps, Full size ($8.00/full set)

IMG_0827 IMG_0829

I love any products I get that are for nails, so I got excited when I got this!!!…. but then, I saw the color I received and wasn’t too excited anymore. I got #NR041 “Union Jack Gold And Black”. It’s like the British flag or something, but instead of being the red white and blue, it’s just gold and black. I suppose I will still try them out, but they look too much like stickers and not the other kinds of nail wraps I have used before. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised :]

For the $21 I spent on this box, I got almost $40 worth of products! How’s that for awesome? It’s all wrapped up super cute & nice, an awesome surprise to wait for in the mail, what more can I ask for?! :]

all love & smiles :]

VS Swim 2013 + Express Spring Collection WANTS!

Sooo normally when I get any kind of catalogue they are quickly tossed in the trash. This wasn’t always the case, as when I was a little girl I thought they were as cool as magazines so I would look through those Limited Too & American Girl catalogues over and over until I memorized all the pages basically… yeah, I was a freak. (Was?…) Anyway, now when I get VS or Express catalogues I feel that same pull that I felt for my little girl catalogues. I love the simplicity of Express’s ads and ummmm I always love looking through a Victoria’s Secret catalogue, those ladies are so perfect & motivational to me!
I want the following items, please & thank you :]

EW + a Little Shopping

Just a few quick tidbits from this week’s Entertainment Weekly, and then my fun new items I bought shopping this weekend. Haven’t really been shopping in a while, and I even stopped shopping online for almost a good 2 weeks. And for me, that’s crazy awesome because I usually purchase at least like, one Groupon a day and constantly checking out other sales and such online. Now that I had quit my job, however, things have changed & I’m trying to be more frugal (which really isn’t that hard for me because I already have so much, I don’t need anymore crap in our house!)………. but, there IS always room for more…. or so I tell myself :]

ipsy Glambag February 2013 Review

As I have shown thus far, I have an obsession with subscription boxes. So far, I have reviewed one of my Glossybox and Birch Boxes. Glambag is/was essentially the same thing. They went through some changes a couple months ago and now go by the name of “ipsy... beauty by you”. For $10/month, they send you a different kind of bag (always good for a travel sized make up pouch), with various trial sized and sometimes full sized products. They are pretty awesome, each month I usually feel like I get my money’s worth, especially because I’m always looking for smaller make up bags for weekends trips and things like that.

I personally think that the cards that come packed with the ipsy glambags are basically useless. Yeah, they have coupon codes on there, but I don’t really buy all the stuff (especially from their website) so it’s kind of pointless and I end up having to go online and look up what all the items are about anyway. I really wish they explained this better on the card instead of just stating the brand of a random product. Also, they don’t include the retail price of the product, which also kinda sucks.

Also, just to note, they call this month “Get Red Carpet Ready”.

Item #1: POP: Smokey Lash Kapow Mascara (0.17 oz)

(I got this in #1, “Smokey Black”)

Item #2: Mica Beauty cosmetics: gel eyeliner

Item #3: Lash Card: Mascara Sheilds (ipsy deluxe sample)

I thought these looked pretty unique, although if/when I’m really trying harding enough, I don’t think it’s that difficult to keep yourself clean while applying mascara. And when I’m in a big rush and DO actually get messy, I don’t think that in my haste I’ll be thinking to grab one of these things… but maybe they actually WILL work… time will only tell.

Item #4: Pixi: Flawless & Poreless (0.5 oz)

Item #5 Coastal Scents: Shadow Pallet Sample

(I received the following colors: Candlelight, Gunmetal, Incognito, & Ashen)

All in all, this glambag was not too bad. I have gotten a few other samples from Coastal Scents, but I always seem to loven them, so no complaints there. I am excited to use the primer, because I hate when my make-up doesn’t stay in place all day. To be COMPLETELY honest though, this is probably the least of my favorite bags that I get monthly. Sometimes they repeat products and just make me angry because of the random stuff they pick for me. I never get really mad and cancel though, because I’m just always curious to see what I will be getting next!

all love & smiles :]
